The Sun Switches Sides!
This week’s post is not directly about finance or even mortgages, which might surprise you as this is mortgage site!
Its more about what current events mean to the mortgage market and more importantly, you!
It is the Labour Party’s annual conference this week and as you may have seen in the media, Gordon Brown and his pals are under fire again. Even to the extent that BBC journalist Andrew Marr (he of the big ears and Sunday morning shows on BBC1) had a massive run in with a labour minister who tore into Marr for asking Gordon Brown personal questions.
If you ask me, that is a party on the ropes…
It was leaked this week that an election is now planned for the start of April next year by the Government, and also maybe almost as significant, the Sun newspaper announced that it was switching allegiance to the Conservative Party.
The Sun are of course famous for switching sides to what is expected to be the winning side (it was a big Tory paper in the eighties and switched to Labour in the early nineties)
You might wonder why this is significant – well, the Sun has almost 4 million readers and does help shape opinion, whatever you might think about its journalistic merits!
That’s all well and good…but how does that affect you and me?
So an election in April…likely to be a new Government….the economy already coming out of recession…the housing market improving…more optimism in the air.
I think it means that 2010 will be a much better year than either 2009 or 2008, and despite that I’ll be 40 (so will my wife Rachel, but we’re not talking about that J) I can’t wait.
Roll on January 1st 2010. Woo hoo!
